Northern Forest Canoe Trail

The Northern Forest Canoe Trail is a ~740 mile route connecting 58 lakes and ponds, with 22 rivers and streams, and about 53 miles of portaging from Old Forge, NY to Fort Kent, ME. While there will always be plenty of portaging, water levels and paddling abilities can have significant impact of the distance walked or paddled. The trail is primarily North East bound, and one question we get a lot is "Wow, wont you be paddling UP a lot of rivers?"Well, we will be paddling upstream in a few places, but it is important to remember that water flows towards the ocean, not DOWN the face of the earth. Gravity is cool like that. Based on our own abilities, experience, and research of others' trips, we expect to finish in about 45 days. Beth says we're not racing....but I suspect finishing in about 24 days is possible, just not this time.
