Moving out of our apartment prior to our thru paddler threw a bit of a wrench into our planning progress. We're starting to get back on track with our set departure date of May 13th. Calvin has been putting a lot of time into building the wheels for our canoe. The final product is probably the third build after trying a few different versions. We now have a spiffy set of wheels built from conduit piping, BMX wheels, and foam filled tires. Given the advice from other thru paddlers, we don't expect this solution to be perfect, but it's easily fixable if necessary. We've pushed the canoe on it at home over rough terrain and we trust it.
I also visited a friend who lives near Newport, VT where we will be re-entering the U.S. on Lake Memphremagog. I took a look around the waterfront to try to find the kiosk/station where we will have to check in. It was surreal to think that I'd be back there in a month and a half or so checking in by boat.
Most gear is in order and we're taking advantage of the time and weather we have now to get on the water. We paddled out onto the Hudson River after work one evening for a peaceful picnic dinner. Calvin told me that I couldn't bring more beach glass home, but I smuggled some back anyway.
